How old am I, really?

We have all heard the adage: You are only as old as you feel. There is some truth in that, but the fact remains that time marches on. We get older. It just doesn’t have to be a bad thing.

My sisters and I had a shock when we looked at our grandmother’s photo and realized that she was our age in the photo! We thought she was so much older…So are we aging better? Are we really more fit? More active? More health conscious? Is it possible we just have better cameras?

I am convinced that being connected is the key to feeling younger. There are so many ways to maintain relationships. As much as I would prefer a phone call to learning things on Facebook, I have to admit that Facebook keeps me up-to-date on news from family and friends. It is wonderful to see pictures of the everyday victories in others’ lives – babies, graduations, engagements, weddings, new jobs, championships, etc.

Of course, there is no substitute for a real visit. I am enjoying one more gift of retirement – the joy of travel! In one week’s time, I will have visited a very large percentage of my extended family. My grand-niece’s wedding, my sister’s retirement, reunion with my college roommate, my niece’s bridal shower, and Girls Weekend! I met my new great-grandnephew, visited with two of my grand-nieces, and will see my grand-nephew too! Isn’t life grand?

I mentioned “Girls Weekend” because it deserves a post all its own. Stay tuned!

Blessings,
Barb
