Thoughts on Election 2016

Can we all agree that this election can’t come soon enough?! This has been a very long 15 months since we first started watching the primary debates. And I have watched them all!

Because we have heard so much talk-talk-talk, I will make this short and sweet. This election has been very uncomfortable. It has been bitter and ugly. I was raised to look up to political leaders. They make a big sacrifice to be public servants, and they have a unique opportunity to do so much good!

Here is what I am taking away from this election season:

1. We have a duty to vote intelligently. Don’t judge a candidate by what the other candidates say about him/her. Learn for yourself – read and listen!

2. People are hurting and begging for help. We need to find ways to help them.

3. Leaders need to be well-educated and trained to lead. They need to know how to speak intelligently and extemporaneously. We need more good teachers – for our country’s sake!

4. We need to talk less and listen more. The more we learn from each other, the more problems we can solve.

5. Technology has changed the way we live. We have to stay ahead of the game!

6. If good people choose to be cynical and withdraw from the political discussion, they will leave a void that will be filled by those who have something personal to gain from politics. We need selfless patriots to step up and be a part of the leadership team.

There are many things that need to be improved in our country. But more than improvement, we need healing. It is time to come together and bridge the big divisions that have been cultivated in this electoral process. So whatever the outcome tomorrow, start thinking about what you can do to make a difference. And pray. May God bless America!

Blessings,
Barb
