A good reason to run… the Feeding the Valley 5K!

I have never been a runner. For me, running has to have a purpose. If you are late, you run. If you want to get somewhere before everyone else, you run. But just to go out and run for fun? It never ever crossed my mind.

So why do people do it? Obviously people run to get in shape or stay in shape. Some report that it really feels good to get out and run! But this Saturday, people will be running to feed the hungry and support a great cause.
According to my brother Frank Sheppard, CEO of Feeding the Valley Food Bank, there are 87,000 people identified as food-insecure just in the area that his food bank serves! Is it hard to imagine having to choose between feeding your children and buying them medications? Or between buying food and paying the electric bill? Count your blessings and support the cause! Feeding the Valley helps these people who would otherwise not be able to put food on the table.

Check out this video interview with Frank about the work they are doing. When I last visited, we got to meet some of his co-workers and volunteers – a great team! They are so excited to be dedicating their new facility this weekend. If you live in the area, be sure to drop in for a run! If you don’t, I am sure they will accept all donations and prayers!
